In August 2023 the Economic Crimes Law was enacted, which systematizes crimes of this nature and those against the environment, and expands the criminal liability of legal entities, with a decisive focus on their leaders.

In this regard, the national media El Diario Financiero, published an article that addresses the challenges for compliance in the public sector, to which our senior associate, Francisco Vial, explained that the new regulations ‘can be an important factor that has contributed to the improvement in the perception of integrity and transparency within organizations’, alluding to the expansion of the catalog of crimes for which a firm can be criminally liable.

The same newspaper also published another article referring to the progress made in the prevention of ethical crimes in companies following the new regulations. In this sense, Francisco Vial explained that the new regulation ‘can be an important factor that has contributed to the improvement in the perception of integrity and transparency within organizations’, alluding to the expansion of the catalog of crimes for which a firm can be criminally liable.
