On July 6, 2024, Decree No. 32 of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development was published in the Official Gazette, modifying the General Ordinance of Urban Planning and Construction (OGUC) by incorporating an exception rule to the sidewalk width requirement in existing urban road adaptation projects.
Specifically, this modification added a phrase to letter a) of the second paragraph of article 2.3.2. of the OGUC, allowing the Housing and Urban Development Service to authorize the reduction of the minimum sidewalk width in adaptation projects on existing urban roads.
This modification aims to facilitate the execution of road adaptation projects, especially in areas where compliance with the minimum sidewalk width is not feasible, while ensuring that necessary accessibility requirements are maintained. Specifically, it introduces an exception to the rule that requires a minimum width of 2.00 meters for sidewalks in road adaptation projects, such as paving, repaving, and maintenance of urban roads.
